Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then located numerous other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police say preliminary tests show the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for information.
A high-ranking official said the attack made him without words and required to be resolved promptly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
